Windshields 101

The windshield is an integral part of your vehicle’s safety system. If it is compromised in any way, a repair is in order to ensure you stay on the road as safely as possible. Not only will cracks and chips impair your vision while driving, they can quickly spread or even rupture your glass without warning, with something as simple as a temperature change. Also, this is a little known fact, but the windshield is a part of your vehicles structure. It acts as a backstop for the passenger side airbag. In the event of an accident, a cracked windshield can cause improper deflection of the airbag.

Windshield Repairs...

Rock chips can compromise the integrity of your windshield, which in turn affects how safely you are driving. You should have them repaired as soon as you possibly can for the best results. A simple harmless looking chip can quickly spread into a very large crack. A crack in a windshield usually causes a glare that can prevent you from seeing clearly, especially at certain times of the day. These glares can cause accidents. As well let’s face it, a repair is going to be far more cost effective than a replacement. We can repair your windshield almost always with no appointment. And the repairs are safe, the glass will never be removed, and the seal will remain maintained! Just head on over to Koch Auto Body and we will have a look with you at the damage and advise you on how to proceed!

When to Change Your Wiper Blades...

Your windshield wiper blades are not essential to the overall structure of your vehicle, but old and ineffective blades can significantly decline your vision during hazardous weather conditions. This is a big safety concern, and we want to make sure that all of our customers get to where they are going safely, every time. If you notice any of the following, you should consider changing your blades as soon as possible.

Windshield Washer Fluid vs. Water...

You should never use plain water over washer fluid. It is pretty much that easy, but let us tell you why! The water alone will not remove the bugs and dirt effectively. It will just cause streaks which will impair your vision further. The additives in the washer fluid help it to evaporate more quickly, leaving your windshield clear. But if you are up here in Northern Alberta with us, we all know that cold temperatures are a common occurrence. So most importantly, the correct washer fluid will not freeze! If you have summer washer fluid, or water, it will freeze in the reservoir, lines and pump. This can lead to cracks and ruptures, as well as no fluid to wash your windshield.
